Spring Break and Holland

How was your week?
Mine has been great, little busy :)

THURSDAY, APRIL 5, 2012.

We went down to a lake to feed the ducks :) It was nice and relaxing!

FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 2012.

How was your good friday?

We went to a city called Utrecht. The ancient city centre features many buildings and structures from the Early Middle Ages. It has been the religious centre of the Netherlands since the eighth century.

This was once the Netherland's largest church, this is what is left. The Dom tower, with to the left behind it the remaining section of the Dom church. The two parts have not been connected since the collapse of the nave in 1674. The Archbishop of Utrecht is the most important Dutch Roman Catholic leader.
This is the church garden!

Then we had lunch, but guess what the restaurant advertised..?

This is the statue of Anne Frank. If you didn't know her hiding place was in Amsterdam.
We ended the day with ice cream :)

SATURDAY, APRIL 7, 2012.

We went to visit Rotterdam.  It is the second-largest city in the Netherlands and one of the largest ports in the world. It was bombed during World War II and totally destroyed.

It is now home to some amazing modern architecture: Houses are built as six sided cubes and others with no designated shape.

We went down by the old harbour relaxed and walked around.

The Jamaican Flag flys representing the jamaican population in Rotterdam.

This is the Erasmus Bridge, a cable stayed bridge linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam. It is the largest and heaviest in West Europe.

SUNDAY, APRIL 8, 2012.

We stayed in Rotterdam for the night and in the morning we made cupcakes for the easter bunny :)
After breakfast we did a boat tour of the Port of Rotterdam. It is the largest port in europe and it was the busiest from 1962 -2004.

When in holland you have to wear the clogs haha!

MONDAY, APRIL 9, 2012.

We went to Amsterdam for the day and took the canal tour.

This is the Nemo, science museum.

This is the national Opera House.

It was raining but that didnt stop us from taking pictures and enjoying our day :)

TUESDAY, APRIL 10, 2012.

I went back to amsterdam, and took a bus tour around the city.
The tour took us to a dimond cutter and retailer. 'Gassan' it is a diamond factory. Amsterdam has a long heritage of diamond trade and industry.
The city has been a major diamond centre since Sephardic Jews introduced the diamond cutting industry in the later 16th century.

Then I went to the Heineken Museum sorry its the Heineken Experience.

It was an amazing tour, super interactive. Finished off with a beer tasting and i'm now a certified beer drafter :)

Then I finished off the day with a tour of the original Anne Frank House.  It showed her life, the original diary and the annex in which her and seven other people hid. Made me appreciate my life so much more.

Have a Great Week and Check in next week to Locate the Jamaican Gal Lost in Europe!
