CHINESE CIRCUS AND SCHOOL

How was your week?
Mine was good :)

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2012.

We went to a chinese circus.

The show is all acrobatic based. They did some amazing tricks, have me enticed for about 2 hours.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2012.

We did our weekend dinner outing :) ... chinese.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 2012.

We had cooking class back at Jerome and Jerome, normal cooking teacher was unavailable. It was a pastry class.

Chocolate Pistachio Cake, with cherry sauce.

Vanilla cup cake with lemon frosting.

Tiramisu with cherries and almond liqueur.

Then we had table decoration. We decorated the dinning table this week and I did the flowers. The theme was mardi gra / carnival.

Extra flowers for the entrance hall :)

My day ended with a gorgeous sunset!

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 2012.

Because the chef was away we didn't get to prepare a meal for table service today, so we had an indian meal.

The concept was to teach us how to each correctly with our hands. Sorry didn't take a pic of us (off the internet).

Here is how it works:
1. Use only your right hand, whatever the hand you usually use. (Only 1 hand is to touch the food)
2. Only your fingers should be used - no usage of the palm.
3. The thumb of the hand is used to catapult (flick) the food into your mouth.
4. You have to tear the bread (like we use syrian bread) but with one hand and use it scoop the curry or the vegetables.
5. For the rice, you can use your fingers and thumb, mix a few ingredients (meat or sauce) and eat in small balls.

Hope you have a great week. Check back in next week to locate the Jamaican Gal Lost in Europe!

CARNIVAL AND SCHOOL

How was your week?
I packed mine with activities to keep me entertained while most of my friends went to Lapland, Finland.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2012.

While the girls were gone there were four of us in the class. This was a great chance for a detailed oenology (wine) class.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2012.

Some friends and I decided to go back to Lucerne. There is more to the city that we couldn't get to see at night.

We started out exploring at 'The Lucerne Lion.'
It is carving of a dying Lion.' It was done in 1820-21, to commemorate the swiss guards who were killed in 1972 during the French Revolution.

Then we continued to view the nine towers.

The Musegg Wall is a part of the old rampart walls which was built in 1386, the wall is still entirely intact.
The nine towers are known by the names Maennli, Nolli, Luegisland, Heu, Pulver, Allenwinden, Dachli,Schirmer and Zyt tower. All these towers are historic site museum and are the portion of the old city of Altstadt

We were too tired to see them all ... this is the 1st one.

Then you got to know face paintings are for big kids too :)

In this carnival not only the performers had costumes and masks but the normal people who come out alone of with there families to support have their own costumes.

The music from the different bands were exceptional it was a combination of jazz and blues and something else, im not too sure.

The celebration lasts for a week starting on Feb 16- 22, on sat it ended around 4pm. We just relaxed for the remainder of the afternoon, got a pizza and took our train back to Montreux.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2012.

We had table decoration. The theme was valentines day and this time I did the table design.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2O12.

We had cooking class. The menu was: appetizer: Leek Fritada (quich without crust), Entree: Pizzaiola of pork, mashed potatoes and braised french green beans and Dessert was my department:

Cream puffs, swans, eclairs and profiteroles (mini cream puffs). This was right up my alley :)

Today we had our practical service meal :) and I was a guest. This was the girls table decoration for this week.

SCHOOL

How was your week?
Mine was pretty lazy when it came to leisure time but busy classes.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2012.

So we had a loong day and a new class in the afternoon, till 7pm: extra cooking. This a extra cooking class provided for the girls taking the final exam to practice their menu. We will have to cook a three course meal, completely alone and clean up in 3 hours. I'm not worried about cooking my meal but the time constraint. The menus were taken out of a hat, I got: Appetizer: Courgette (zucchini) quiche, Entree: Lemon roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and french style green peas, Dessert: Pears in wine sauce.

We will have three of these extra classes. I used the 1st class to do a dish i had never eaten or seen before.

Courgette (zucchini) quiche, its a basic pie crust but its then layers or shallots, duck breast and zucchini then all covered in a cream sauce and baked.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2012.

On Wednesday I would have had my turn to be the Maitre d'hotel. But there was a change in the time table due to, On Wednesday the girls are going to Lapland, Finland. So service was on Tuesday.

This required my to have to decorate the table because there was no decoration class, there were also no flowers so we improvised.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2012.

Its valentines day!! Happy Valentines day to all, xox. The house mothers even left us a little present, a box of chocolates :)
After table service we had table decorations, this week I did the flowers :) this was my second bouquet ever, it definitely came out better than the first one.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2012.

This morning I woke up to it snowing. But everything continues as normal.

Most girls have left on a school trip to Lapland, so once again I will have a few days of private classes. To my advantage one of those classes are cooking and this weeks menu is the same as my exam :)

I did the lemon roasted chicken and French style green peas.
The dessert for my meal is Pears in wine sauce. Simply pears pealed and poached in a flavored red wine sauce.

Hope you have a great week! Check back in next week to locate the Jamaican Gal Lost in Europe.

SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION

How was your week?
I know I am running late again was a busy Wednesday.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2012.

This was a sad night :( It was my last great meal at Hotel Victoria.

Veal steak, with potato pasta and steamed vegetables.

This is the best invention ever, the 'Dessert Trolly.' They were all amazing, I had to try everything throughout the week.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2012.

My extra Course was over and the time had come to go back to Surval, was excited to see my friends :)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2012.

The Japanese girls suggested we go for dinner, but we wanted something different so they took us to a Korean restaurant, in Lausanne. The dishes were full of different vegetables but were all great :)

This is Bibimbap (like fry rice) rice topped with seasoned vegetablesis served in a heated stone bowl, the dish to continue cooking after it is served, and in which a raw egg is cooked against the sides of the bowl.

Well Based on this picture you can figure we are FREEZING! The temperature has been averaging -10 degrees Celsius.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2012.

Table Decoration class is back! We had free decoration time while they informed the new students about how everything works.

I did the flowers :) simple but the other flowers didn't match the table colours.

The main dining table for service was set strangely to me, it was decorated by 2 different groups .

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2012.

Most students last term including myself were not satisfied with the cooking teachers, so this term they changed it up. The class is split into two days and we cook the meal for the the practical service meal. The new teacher is great and the class is very hands on opposed to the demonstrations of last term.

Well I will say this was a long day because after cooking this meal I had to serve it, but it was a great day :) I enjoyed being back in this.
This is why the blog is late. I got to school yesterday to find out that that was the night of the ice skating show I had signed up for last term.

The show was called 'ART ON ICE.'

The show was amazing, I was honestly blown away. There was live music and all kinds of performers. The main singer was from a British Band called ' Simply Red' his name is Mick Hucknall.

There were some acrobats, comedians and Olympic gold medalist from all around the world! It was truly a spectacle.

This was all the performers coming out for the finally.

Sorry Again for it being late. Hope you have an awesome week and check back in next week to locate the Jamaican Gal lost in Europe.
